SHAKESPEARE'S WARRING AND WOOING
A fast-paced, four person show that focuses on Stage Combat and Elizabethan Costumes & Customs.
Using scenes from shows such as Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, the "Warring" half of the presentation illustrates the role of stage combat in Shakespeare's works. Ranging from the dirk to the rapier to the broadsword, the actors explain not only how the weapons play a role in the Bard's works, but also their historical significance. Intermixed with the combat, the "Wooing" portion of the show covers the conventions of Elizabethan dress, and how it differs from the styles of today---but not so much from the styles of the 70's---and how clothes even affect romance! And by utilizing scenes from such comedies as The Taming of the Shrew, students learn how funny, and combative, romance can really be!
