Directed by Alison C. Vesely
Featuring Mary Ernster as
Beatrice and Sean Grennan as Benedick
One of Shakespeare's
liveliest comedies, Much Ado About Nothing focuses on the merry war
of wits between the satirical Benedick and the sharp-tongued
Beatrice. For our production, we added a bit of a twist,
setting the story in the 1870's town of Mesilla,
New Mexico, where Benedick is a cavalry officer just back from the Indian
Wars, and Beatrice is one of the spunkiest frontier women this side of
Santa Fe. Add Sheriff Dogberry, the evil Don John, virtuous Hero,
and impulsive Claudio, and it all added up to a rollicking good time in Old
Southwest.
